Mrs. Maricel Sopongco Franco alumna of Aldersgate College and valedictorian of batch 1987 was adjudged as one of the 2011 Metrobank’s Outstanding Teachers in the country awarded by President Simeon Benigno Aquino III at the Malacañang Palace last August 25 and Metrobank Plaza Makati City, Sept. 5 respectively.
Franco is currently connected with the Nueva Vizcaya General Comprehensive High School (NVGCHS) Bayombong handling Physics who was newly promoted to Master Teacher 1 for her achievement.
Among the 175 nominees from both public and private schools in the country, Franco clinched as one of the eight public teachers from the secondary levels who qualified as a national finalist in the 2011 Metrobank Foundation search for outstanding teachers after surpassing her rivals in the screening.
The outstanding teachers together with the country’s outstanding policemen and soldiers were given gold medals, plaques, and a total cash prize close to 10 million pesos for the three searches .The outstanding teachers were judged by Sen. Loren Legarda and Supreme Court Associate Justice Martin S. Villarama.
Prior to his assignment at NVGCHS, she served her alma mater, Aldersgate College as a Physics teacher. She developed instructional materials in Physics and several researches in science some of which won titles in regional as well as national competitions. She is also a national trainer for the Intel Teach Program and the moderator of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) since 1990. Franco who is affiliated with the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) is active in the church as a “Mangaawit” and a Youth Choir leader.
Its is a big step toward a goal for a teacher like Franco to serve as an inspiration among her students, colleagues and Aldersgate College her alma mater.#MJJT-
