With raging spirit and soaring enthusiasm, students, and employees of Aldersgate College gathered at the AC quadrangle to memorialize the opening of Intramurals 2012 with the theme” Defining who we were, Defining who we are and who we wish to be “, last September 24.
Despite the scorching heat of the sun, ACians unified in a parade around the town at 8:00 a.m. led by the Solano PNP Force followed by all athletic contingents, Midget, Junior, and Senior Division and the Elementary as well as the High School band.
The opening ceremonies focused on the raising of contingent banners by the captain ball and muse of each team, the oath of amateurism by all athletes, the ceremonial tossing of the ball, the relay and lighting of the torch of sportsmanship by the team managers, the Athletic Director, Mr. Emerson Castañeto and the AC president Dr. Junifen F. Gauuan.
The quadrangle soon resounded with the loud cheers of the throng when the cheer dance competition started with the four teams of the college participating; the SERPENTS of the of the School of Medical Sciences(SMS) and the College of Engineering and Technology (CET); the RAPTORS of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (CASE) with the School of Criminology (SC); the TYCOONS of the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) and the PHOENIX of the School of Informatics and Hospitality Management (SIHM). The competition ended as the Raptors settled as champion gaining them a shrilling applause from the spectators.
The Arnis and Taekwondo Clubs of the elementary and high school astounded the crowd with their sizzling and awesome exhibition that showed their prowess in poomse and self defense. The participants in taekwondo who started their training last summer are currently enrolled in the school’s taekwondo program under the initiative of the elementary school principal Mr. Rommel Alejos. Though considered greenhorn in the field, most of them were medalist in the Luzon Taekwondo Championship held recently at Solano.
The unfailing weather favored the athletic competition that lasted for four days. It concluded with the Closing and Awarding Ceremony with the Raptors as the overall champion of the Senior Division, the Stallions of the Junior Division and the Tigers of the Midget Division. /Mjjt/

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers- Aldersgate College Student Chapter (PICE-ACSC) celebrated the annual PICE Week on November 26, 2010 with the theme “PICE: Engineering for a Better Philippines”. Activities like Mathematics Quiz Bee and Bridge Building Competition were the highlights of the activity. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the contests. The celebration was headed by the PICE-ACSC President, Jemmalyn Fernandez under the guidance of the adviser, Ferdinand Marcos.
Engr. Jaymar Bicera, EE Coorinator of the department, attended the 35th Annual National Convention of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers at the SMX Convention Center, MOA on November 24-26, 2010. The theme of the event geared towards the leadership of the IIEE Organiztion in green energy solutions to climate change. Various topics were highlighted during the technical sessions/academic fora which included re-engineering the EE curriculum to cater to the latest career opportunities especially on green engineering.
To reconcile theoretical concepts with the actual setting, the senior CE/EE students together with their Instructors visited the Solano Municpal Sanitary Landfill last October 15, 2010. The field visit and observation were part of the related learning experience of the students in their Sanitary Engineering and Electrical System Design subjects. With the permission of the Municipal Mayor Philip Dacayo, Mr. Arnel Domincel, the General Services Officer of LGU-Solano and the Officer In-charged of the sanitary landfill conducted a brief overview on its design, operations, and maintenance. Because of its good governance and consistent effective operations, it was already issued an Environmental Compliance Certificate by the DENR. Mr. Domincel also stressed that the landfill is the first in region 2 and is now considered as a prototype of many local government units in their quest for an effective and efficient solid waste management program.
To develop and enhance the awareness of the second year engineering and tec-voc students in the various aspects of Etiquette and Grooming, a seminar on Social Graces and Good Grooming was conducted on August 21, 2010 at the CET building. Engr. Josephine P. Jasmin, the resource speaker emphasized that personal hygiene is the first step to good grooming and good health, that being well-groomed helps build self-confidence and makes the person feel proud of himself knowing that others appreciate his ways and appearance. She also stressed that etiquette is not only about forms, manners, and ceremonies established by convention as acceptable or required by society but it is also the ability to reason and do the right thing at the right time. The activity was jointly sponsored by the 2nd Class Year Organization and the AC Future Industrialists (ACFI).
This year’s CET Acquaintance and Induction Program was capped with the theme “CET: Onwards to Green and Efficient Technology”. The Guest Speaker and Inducting Officer, Engr. Victor Brioso, Provincial Administrator of TESDA Ifugao enthused that we should take good care of Mother Earth by conserving and preserving the natural environment and resources to curb the negative impacts of human involvement. He said that since we are in the age of technology, let’s have a technology that is environmentally friendly, created and used in a way that preserves natural resources and the environment. The occasion was also a time when the new board passers of the CE/EE licensure exams were given due recognition for bringing honor to the department and the school. The event was made more memorable by the showcase of various gimmicks prepared by the Student Council like the search for Mr. CET 2010 and Videoke King. The event was held at the Audio-Visual Room last August 6, 2010.
The Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines – Council of Student Chapters, a national organization of Electrical Engineering students, once again gathered the EE students from across the region during the 6th Regional Student Conference held at the University of Saint Louis, Tuguegarao on September 23, 2010. The Conference aimed to build camaraderie and provide students the enthusiasm to learn more as they progress until they become practitioners. The highlights of the event included technical seminars, fellowship night, quiz show among others. The students were accompanied by their IIEE Adviser and EE Coordinator, Engr. Jaymar M. Bicera.
The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers-AC Student Chapter initiated a lecture-training on AutoCAD- basics last September 16, 2010 at the Computer Laboratory 2 with Mr. Ferdinand Marcos as the lecturer-trainer. AutoCAD is an integral part of the Engineering and Tec-Voc curricula; however the need for additional knowledge on the basic concepts was identified as necessary to hone the students’ drafting skills. It also served as review lessons for the senior students. The training was participated in by interested CET students.
The AC CET TESDA scholars on Consumer Electronics Servicing culminated with a Trade Assessment last September 25, 2010. The results of the knowledge and skills evaluation were released on October 6, and all fifteen (15) TESDA scholars hurdled the assessment with flying colors.
